Therapy helps people build relationships that feel stronger, more connected and fulfilling

Most relationships encounter difficulties at some point, often  expressed as recurring conflict, distance, loss of trust, or feeling stuck in patterns that cause pain or frustration. These challenges are common and understandable. Through relationship therapy they can be explored with care and clarity, making it possible to reduce conflict, strengthen communication, and rebuild trust and intimacy.

People come to therapy for a whole range of reasons:

  • a change, crisis or sudden rupture in the relationship like an affair, loss of a loved one, becoming parents, mental or physical health challenges, financial worries, or children leaving home
  •  their relationship has drifted and become more distant and less fulfilling than it once was
  •  they notice persistent patterns in their relationships, such as self-sabotage or co-dependency, that leave them feeling distressed and stuck
  •  they are seeking support after a relationship has ended, using therapy as a space to process loss, make sense of what has happened, and regain a sense of direction

MY APPROACH

Communication and Change

My approach focuses on improving communication, increasing understanding, raising awareness of engrained patterns of interaction, and repairing emotional and physical closeness. My aim is to help people talk more openly, listen more effectively, and respond to one another in ways that feel respectful and constructive.

What I Can Help With

I work with a wide range of relationship concerns, including communication issues, communication styles, arguments, conflict, silence, attachment, sexual difficulties, kink, sexuality, loss of intimacy, attachment injuries, depression, addiction, affairs, betrayals, infidelity, trust issues, trauma, family discord, work-related stress, parenting stress, the impact of neurodiversity on relationships, amicable endings, divorce, co-parenting, life transitions (starting a family/children leaving home/ retirement). I also work with couples who are separating, offering support around negotiating this transition thoughtfully and constructively to optimise recovery and future happiness. For those with children I offer information around supporting children though their parents' separation and creating cooperative co-parenting arrangements to build families that are reorganised, not destroyed.

Therapetic Approach

My practice is integrative and tailored to the people I work with. My foundation is a systemmic, person-centred approach using attachment-based and emotionally focused therapy.  I draw on practices such as CBT and narrative therapy to help people reflect on their relationships, reframe unhelpful beliefs, and develop healthier ways of coping with emotional challenges. When supporting difficulties around sex and intimacy I work from a psychosexual perspective, looking at sex, desire and intimacy issues in terms of the couple’s emotional context.    I have a strong interest in the practical application of neuroscience, particularly how understanding instinctive reactions can help reduce misunderstandings, increase empathy and de-escalate conflict.

Calm and Supportive

Across all my work the focus remains on the client and their needs. I offer a calm, non-judgemental, and collaborative space where people feel heard and supported, and where meaningful change can develop at a pace that feels realistic and sustainable.

All relationships

I work in person and online with individuals and couples of all sexualities in traditional and non-traditional relationships of all structures and orientations.

SESSIONS

What to Expect

I offer a free initial telephone consultation to discuss your needs, what you would like to work on, and whether relationship therapy would be appropriate for you at this stage. This conversation also provides an opportunity for you to ask any questions about the therapeutic process and how I work. It typically lasts around 20 minutes and is intended to help us decide whether working together would be a good fit.

If we decide to proceed, I will send you my terms and conditions, general information about therapy, and a short questionnaire to complete prior to the first session.

Each session lasts 50 minutes. Sessions are weekly, at the same time each week. After a number of sessions, clients may choose to have bi-weekly sessions or move to sessions on an ad hoc basis by mutual agreement.

When working with couples,I begin with an initial joint session, followed by an individual session with each partner, after which joint sessions resume. This allows space to understand each person’s perspective and to clarify what each individual would like to achieve through therapy.
